Muslim Magazine More Popular Than Vogue

Flip through any women’s fashion magazine today, and you’ll be sure to find plenty of sultry gazes and no shortage of what some might call gratuitous nudity. But relatively new Muslim fashion glossy Ala is breaking the mold with a “conservative chic” approach, and has found extreme success in Turkey.
Ala debuted in June 2011 and editor, Ebru Yayindag, explains that, contrary to the (ostensible) ethos of every other fashion-focused magazine in the world, the clothes featured are not supposed to make a woman look attractive. Instead, per Muslim tradition, women are photographed with their bodies covered (with the exception of the hands, feet, and face). In a short segment with the BBC, reporter Rajan Datar delves into the mag’s pages to find out why it’s “outsold all other rivals from Vogue to Marie Claire and Elle“.

Samar Sharbatly's Designs

The Arab women love fashion as much as the French does. Not only Arab fashionista like Sheikh Mozah, Queen Rania and alike who can attest to that but Lebanese designers like Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, Georges Chakra, Reem Acra and many others who continue to captivate the world with their beautiful creations. Now, a handbag designer from an unexpected country, Saudi Arabia has a lady to contribute among the list of talented designers in the region.

Samar Sharbatly, is a travller and used to live in London. She now lives in lebanon which she gets here inspiration from as the country is a perfect combination of East and West as well as her friends, family and street style. She describes that cities like London, being funky and daring and Paris being elegant and classy epitomize her design aesthetic.

Python and crocodile skins are obviously the brands signature whcih comes in many different colors with comfort, design and being fashion forward as their major requirement in creating these handbags.

The Designers quote:

“I have always been interested in fashion and style. Fashion has an unbelievably seasonal fast track of trends. It’s very expensive to keep up with these trends, so I got the idea of creating a timeless collection with long-lasting value and endless style, which can be dressed up or down depending on the outing or occasion.

Purplexity

I stumbled upon these poems about the color purple which I was inspired to come up with this look.

Purple

Purple is flowers
Purple is royalty
Purple is for longing
Purple is my saddened tears
Purple smells like grapes in the middle of April
Purple tastes like wine on a Sunday morning
Purple sounds like a hippo in the wilderness making his calls of pain
Purple looks like a little child gripping onto her sister's hand
Purple feels like baby smooth skin
Purple makes me feel sadness
Purple is a reminder of Jordan

If Purple Could Heal You

If Purple Could Heal You
By Tameka Callaway
One day, you told me that Purple is your favorite color.
I wish that purple can heal you

If purple could heal you, I would give purple flowers everyday

in a purple vase that will make your day

I would wear purple lip stick so I come leave kisses on you face

Wish there was purple days and purple nights

If only purple could heal you, I will give a purple glass of purple kool aid with purple ice so you would have a purple tong

I would go to the end of the world to find you the perfect purple yarn so I could make you a purple body suit from head to toe

Oh how I would give you a purple world

But for now, I just give you a purple poem
I love you

Purple

Purple is the color of love,
Purple is the color I dream of.

Purple is the color of passion,

Purple is the latest fashion.

Purple is the color of glad,

Purple is the best color they had.

Purple is the color of laughs,

Purple is what he said on my behalf.

Purple is the color of me,

Purple is the best, you see.

Confessions on a Dance Floor in KSA

On November 15, 2012 a party was organized by the Association of Bikolanos in the Eastern Region of KSA and I was invited over by friends which I was excited as always. This is a night of pure clean fun by the way. It was all about meeting new friends, good Filipino food and great dancing.

We were one of the early birds that night so we had the opportunity to take as many photos as we could in each room of the rented villa. When I saw the dance floor I couldn't help but remember the  photos from the " Confessions Tour  of Madonna . When I saw the dance floor , I knew I had to bring the little Madonna inside and played with my cam with friend Jonathan.

Laced with Lace

I am an avid fan of Marc Jacob's eponymous clothing line, designing for LV and ofcourse his personal sense of style. He made wearing kilt sexy and cool but what can you say about the Commes des Garcons lace dress he had worn on MET Gala 2012?

I personally love the sheer frock but not so sure about the white boxer shorts. Its just something I didn't expect much from him although he looks hot.

I tried channeling the look in my own style. Instead of making a dress, I had  requested my favorite tailor to make a shirt out of a lace material which he was hesitant to accept at first as it is hard to work with.

I hope you like it guys!!!
